Principal Learning Overview
At Higher level learners will:
- develop knowledge and understanding of the nature, extent and role of the travel and tourism sector, and of those who work within it
- understand the diversity of the sector, and the importance of finance and legislation
- develop their knowledge of UK and worldwide destinations, their key features and their appeal to different types of visitors
- plan travel and create itineraries to meet travellers’ needs
- gain awareness of how to respond to opportunities, pressures and crises in travel and tourism
- understand and apply their knowledge of promotions, methods and media used through creating promotional materials and selecting appropriate sales methods for products or services
- use project planning techniques to plan individual and team tasks.
At Advanced level learners will:
- gain opportunities to analyse, evaluate and explore principles and practice relating to the travel and tourism sector
- know about the drivers of change in travel and tourism and how the sector responds
- develop skills in customer service delivery to both internal and external customers
- understand the positive and negative socio-cultural impacts of travellers on destinations
- understand the environmental impacts and pressures created by travel, destination developments and visitors
- understand the roles of international, national, regional, local and other agencies and how they influence the sector
- develop learners’ understanding of the past and current drivers of change in the travel and tourism sector and their impacts on sector structure, business activities and tourism products and services
