The Sport and Active Leisure industry is new, high profile and rapidly becoming more professional. By encouraging individuals to lead active and healthy lifestyles, its workforce has a hugely significant role to play in helping address current social challenges.

The learning partners work together to provide learning opportunities that encompass the breadth of the sector including active leisure, youth work, events stewarding, grounds maintenance and construction.

The Principal Learning for the Sport and Active Leisure diploma incorporates 50% applied learning with collaborative work with the industry sector. Industry partners come from four different business models and the breadth of sector groups.

The applied learning will take the form of field trips, employment visits, guest lectures, applied principal learning projects, workshops, site visits, observations and scenario work.

Sport and Active Leisure in the context of this Diploma refers to the industry which has a collective goal to encourage people to lead active and healthy lifestyles, and that employs more then 4.8 million people across the following job roles: 

SkillsActive Sports coaches, professionals, volunteers, leisure centre managers, operational staffm  fitness instructors,  community activators, outdoor activity leaders, play-workers, caravan park professionals.

Construction Skills Sports specialist construction workers (eg hard landscaping at sports venues, accessing and rigging, the erection of stands at sports events, laying sports surfaces).

LANTRA Grounds staff, green-keepers, sports turf/horticultural landscapers, equine industry professionals, environmental conservation workers.

Lifelong Learning UK Leisure-based youth, community workers.
